Speaking of pop princess' I see that Tiffany and Debbie ( now Deborah for that more "mature" image ) Gibson still both have a loyal gaggle of fans. Heck, even I quite enjoyed them at the time. I'd have to file them under 80's nostalgia now though Smilie.

9-5 is bad for your health according to the Sleep Council. The Council analysed the data collected between 1999 and August 2001 from 12,000 survey respondents from around the world.
Here's some of the findings:
".. the implication is that the majority are not fully alert in the middle of the day - the traditional time for a siesta in hot countries. We must conclude from this survey, that the traditional 9-5 working day does not suit the majority,"

"..the UK is also the most scantily clad of nations at bedtime with 51% going naked in summer against 29% in winter."

"UK respondents were outnumbered by nearly three to one in their use of sleeping pills with just 7% of those taking part using them as opposed to 18% of their overseas counterparts".

"74% of UK respondents as opposed to 56% of all others said they enjoyed a regular lie-in".

"[the] fact that 73% of the world uses alarm clocks, says Dr Idzikowski, confirms the need for more sleep. "Otherwise they would wake up naturally,"
Story spotted at the BBC, Ananova and What the Papers Say.

I want my mummy. This probably wins the "Most bizarre site I've seen all week" award, and that's not bad considering the competition....

Yahoo today quotes US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, "We may not find Bin Laden". If this is true, and the rest of the report alleging a wide base of support for Bin Laden in the Mid East is also true, why are we bombing Afghanistan? ( Speaking of which, surely this Armchair warmongery virtual campaign of retribution is much less costly)

The Browser Wars are far from over it seems. Apparently MSN.COM is actively stopping non Internet Explorer browsers from connecting to the service. Mozilla & Opera seem to be specifically targetted. From the Yahoo article:
"Microsoft is seeing (that) it is an Opera browser and shutting it out," said Tetzchner, whose team was testing the problem Thursday. "If you change the Opera string by one letter, it is letting us in."
The software giant admitted that it is watching for Opera strings--but only because it wants to encourage people to use standard-compliant browsers.
Almost plausible, I mean, I'd probably use Opera ( It is cool ) if it's standards compliance was a bit better, and it supported the Google Toolbar and the Copernic Pro & Summarizer integration I find indespensible these days Smilie. Of course this being the real and only reason is probably unlikely.

It's a big spliff
Celebrate?

Home Secretary David Blunkett is proposing that Cannibis be reclassified as a class C drug, effectively making prosecution for simple possesion the exception not the rule. Licensed Medical use is also on the cards. No other drugs are to be reclassified. Story on BBC.

The Guardian has run a piece discussing The Sun's accusations of "spin" over this announcement. I guess The Sun doesn't approve, at least in public, I expect the journos are probably just as big bong-monkeys as the rest of the population.smilie

Disney take an underhanded swing at Napster. The October 5th episode of the "Proud Family" entitled "EZ Jackster" shows the disasterous effects of illegal music trading. Not at all a transparent attempt by a global media company to influence the youth of today, really... Story on Newsforge.

Rummaging through my hundreds of favourites earlier (I really need to clean up) I came across the link to Chris Coutt's No Effort Online site, home of the fabulous Tales for the L33t: Romeo & Juliet Flash Movie. Blisteringly good fun to watch again. Also I see part 1 of the heavily Matrix inspired There's something about Osmethne is released, but be warned it's a bloomin' long movie!

For anyone interested in censorship issues in the UK I've found a great site called Ban the Board of Censors. Looks promising, definately a site to check in with often. The other key site to check out, is as always the Melonfarmers. Always stay up to date with the latest censorship insanities!
