Mobile PC Magazine Top 100

Mobile PC Magazine has just listed the top 100 gadgets of all time(so far), whilst it is an impressive list, one thing doesn't make sense to me.
If the telephone, created in 1876 is number 23 in the list, then surely it should be a 'greater' invention than anything that is based on, or requires the telephone.
By my reasoning, the following devices should still be considered great, but not greater than the original telephone.
18. MOTOROLA DYNATAC 8000X, 1983
16. ACOUSTIC DATA COUPLER 300 MODEM, 1968
4. MOTOROLA STARTAC, 1996

Even then the laptops and MP3 players listed above 23, also often require services based on the telephone, for RAS or music downloads and a variety of other services.
