Harry Potter Porn. I dunno, I thought the Star Trek and Buffy Porn was bad enough, this is just freaky!

Patent Stupidity: Apple invented Alpha Blending. If Apple wins this one, I will have lost my faith entirely. Is the Patent office staffed with monkeys?
"At issue is patent number 5379129, filed by Apple in May 1992 and granted to the company in January 1995. The patent describes a "method for compositing a source and destination image using a mask image". Essentially, it covers how computer software may blend two images using a third, the mask, to determine how the two are melded together. "
Elements of the story be be found on The Register here and here. There is also a list of potential prior art claims online. And just for fun heres a list of other questionable Patents.

Speaking of Online Texts, which of course I was, I've found a great selection of the works of HP Lovecraft online at the HP Lovecraft Library. I think I have everything here already, but handy nonetheless.

I don't know why but I thought The Hungry Horse was brilliant. Very Hans Christian Anderson like.. I love the proper unsanitised, undisneyified Hans Christian Anderson tales, they're great! There's a good selection of his stories here. Personal favourite is still The Tinder Box I think.

Another reminder: Dec 1st, International AIDS day. Represented amongst the online design community as 'a day without art'. Design sites close down for the day.

There's a new edition of "TVGoHome". Read it now, it's only a matter of time before the author is recruited by ITV to realise his bizarre inventions.

This site claims the US is still a British Colony. They lost me about the 3rd paragraph. Maybe if they tranlate it into English I'll try again.

It seems that the old favourite Nigerian Scam is right up at number 3 in the list of Top 10 Internet Scams for 2001. My own personal favourite variation is the one with the Diamonds, It's so beautifully crafted. I saw a chap with a paper copy of that one on the train earlier this year, but he wasn't interested in hearing it was a scam. I guess there really is one born every minute. Or maybe he just thought I was a freak Smilie.

Take a look at Dumb Laws and witness the folly of allowing elected officials decide the law of the land. I vote we let the computers make the law in future. Speaking of which, I see that my own delightful Government thinks it's okay to rush through it's coveted new Anti-Terror Bill of 120-odd clauses with only a couple of days debate.

The BBC ran a story last week about a man apparently fired for smoking in the privacy of his own home. If true that's definately waaay over the line. If this is an indication of things to come I want assurances that line-dancers will be equally targetted.

Last night I had a religious experience. I spent the evening at the NFT in the company of John Lasseter and Ray Harryhausen. I have tried to explain the significance of this event to everybody I have met today and only my brother 'gets it'. I feel a "bell curve" reference coming on...

The "ChildCare Action Project (CAP): Christian Analysis of American Culture" have put up thier report on Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone.
"And what better time to embrace evil in entertainment than now when we have kicked God out of schools, government and many, many homes and what used to be the family"

"By the way, Harry converses with a snake in this movie. Not a cow, not a dog, not a cat, but a snake. And one of the characters is 665.5 years old."

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is numerically equivalent to a PG-13 of the movies in the CAP comparative baseline database. In the baseline database, PG-13 movies earned from 67 to 55 of 100. This movie earned a CAP final score of 55. Offense to God, Wanton Violence/Crime and Impudence/Hate earned scores equivalent to R-rated programming. Sex/Homosexuality, Drugs/Alcohol and Murder/Suicide earned scores equivalent to G-rated programming. "
They've been quite gentle I think Smilie. Incidentally the most hated movie at CAP is [unsurprisingly]....... Dogma.

The sharp eyed Chris spotted this little story over on The Register about BMG and thier evil Copy Protected CD's.
"Bertelsmann Music Group has had to back down on plans to force anti-rip technologies on British CD buyers."

"BMG released its first copy-protected CD, Natalie Imbruglia's new album White Lilies Island, earlier this month. However, a posting on the Natalie Imbruglia Web site this weekend, revealed the company's plan to issue unhappy consumers with replacement discs that lack the anti-rip encoding."
I can confirm that this is indeed the CD I bought and ranted about the other day. I have already phoned up and am awaiting the arrival of my pre-paid envelope to make the return. Result!

Shock result! According to Fuali.com I'm more of a Metal-Head than I am a raver, geek, goth, grunger or punk!

I am 53% Metal-Head.
Metal Head!
I rock just as hard as the rest of the thrash set, except when no ones looking I like to get down with a little "More than a Feeling."

Even bigger shock result! The Test says I'm not an Internet Addict. I'm beginning to think these tests might be bogus! Smilie

I am 47% ADDICTED TO THE INTERNET.
Slight Internet Addict
I could go either way. Deep into the madness of nights filled with coding CGI-Scripts and online role playing games, or I could become a normal user. Good luck!
